2012 Winter / Spring Classes

Please read Class Policies

CLASS SPACE is limited and requires a minimum number of students, so advance registration and payment are required. Class policies, store policies, class descriptions, and costs are all available at the shop as well as online at HenHouseQuilts.net.

Class supplies and materials are purchased separately and are not part of the class fee unless stated otherwise. Class prices are per student unless stated otherwise. Purchase class supplies from Hen House Quilts and get a 10% discount on your purchase. Classes begin promptly; materials and supplies are purchased before class begins unless stated otherwise.

NOTE:  We now have two cutting tables in the classroom area. However, if business volume demands, we still may need one of the tables for cutting during class time.

BRING TO CLASS—Students are to bring to class a sewing machine in good working order and necessary supplies, such as rotary cutter, mat, rulers, etc. Please label all your personal supplies.

LUNCHBOX CLASSES—Some classes overlap into lunch time. Pack your own or try one of our local restaurants. We have several fast food eateries and all of our restaurants offer carry-out.

SKILL LEVELS—Noted skill levels for each class are important! Based on a specific level, instructors assume the student understands the terminology and has mastered the minimum level of sewing and quilting techniques for that particular class. The Begin to Quilt and/or the Begin to Sew classes are strongly recommended if you have not taken a sewing or quilting class before, even if you are self-taught.
1  Novice: little experience or knowledge with terminology and techniques in sewing and/or quilting activities
2  Intermediate: knowledgeable with basic terminology and techniques in sewing and/or quilting
3  Experienced: well-versed with more complex and advanced sewing and piecing techniques

Mexican Stars [2] -- We are frequently asked to teach this class by Sothwind Designs. This wallhanging is absolutely gorgeous in batiks, as shown, but June's southwestern color scheme has brought many oohs and ahs, too. Try Christmas prints! It's stunning. Pattern required, $10.25. Instructor: June Horner. Sessions (2), Saturdays, February 4 and 11, 1:00 - 4:30 pm, $35.

This class was canceled because of the snow on Friday, February 3. Wow weee, some places really got dumped on. Anyway, we will be re-scheduling this class to the last two Saturdays in March, March 24 and 31, 1:00 - 4:30 pm. We have 3 or 4 more chairs available, so you still have time to sign up.

Crazy Quilt Sweatshirt Jacket [1] (Photo coming) -- It is crazy, not to mention fun!  Take a sweatshirt and piece fabric scraps or cut up FQs to make an entirely different garment. Linda made hers from bright, colorful black prints and a black sweatshirt. She gets a ton of compliments every time she wears it. Match your fabric choices with your sweatshirt color and let Linda show you her easy method of making it especially yours! No pattern. Instructor: Linda Chris. Sessions (2), Wednesdays, February 8 and 15, 1:00 - 4:00 pm, $35.

Wool Etchings [2]
-- Rita Meyerhoff chose Wool Etchings, a 37 x 37" wallhanging with wool blossoms and scrolled stems to teach this class of machine applique. Previous machine applique is a pre-requisite. Book with templates are required: Applique Jubilee, $26.95. Sessions (1), Saturday, February 18, 10:00 am - 4:30 pm , $45. Lunchbox class.

Easter Bunny Wallhanging [1] (photo coming) -- If you have young children or grandchildren, this simple wallhanging is an absolute must to have in your home or to give as a gift for the Easter Holiday. The bunny is just too cute! Pattern included in class fee. Instructor: Jan Richardson. Session (1), Saturday, February 25, 10:00 am - 4:00 pm, $35. Lunchbox class.

Hunter Star [2] -- Back by popular demand! We will use the Rapid-Fire Hunter Star ruler for this class because it makes those points come together like no other method. The size will be your choice, but
for class purposes, we will make enough blocks for a simple wallhanging. The Columbine Hunter Star below is made with only two fabrics, but we will discuss fabrics and color choices the first day of class. The Rapid-Fire Hunter Star ruler required, $TBD. Pattern is included with ruler. Instructor: Linda Feidler. Sessions (2), Saturdays, March 3 and 10, 1:00 - 4:30 pm, $35.
